     Hello ... as usual The Flemington Farmers market will be closed between Christmas and New Year, so we will be closed December 27th  only.

    we will finish on December 20th and re-start again on Jan 3rd.

    There is one criterion for a good producer, and that is flavour. It doesn't matter how many ethical, sustainable and humane boxes producers tick, if the lamb, chicken, cheese or fruit they are growing and making doesn't taste good, they are not good producers. It's as simple as that.

    Farmers work longer for less...

    Well its the only reasonable explaination we can draw after reading an article in the Age based on the ABS Characteristics of Employment survey.

    The survey addressed the working hours of Australians. Its exposed the 38 hour working week as a myth for a very large percentage of the Australian workforce and listed the categories of industries where the workers work the longest hours per week

     The Parklands Animal Rescue Petting Zoo will be at the market again this Sunday ( and every 4th Sunday)

    Based in Gisbourne the petting zoo is run and as an adjunct to the Rescue Centre which predominatly takes native wildlife that is injured on the roads, abandoned or orphaned or those displaced by loss of  habitat.

    All the profits go to maintaining the operations of the animal rescue centre.

    This is the opening and closing paragraph of an article in THE AGE on Thursday 2 Sept.  For those who missed it its an interesting look at how big business has highjacked the term ( and cost ) of organic fruit and vegetables.  Have a read ... its hard to disagree with the conclusion.     Mal and Lola grow spuds up in the Bullarto area behind Daylesford and north of Ballarat and bring to market and sell simply the best potatoes its possible to buy in Melbourne. From Dutch Creams to Colibans and Sebago's to Red Pontiac's.
