Melbourne turned on some beautiful warm sun after a very crisp start to our market day! Was terrific to see our shoppers back this weekend enjoying the weather whilst doing their weekly shopping. The kids made the most of the new chalk boards available at the market for them to draw all over, whilst other mini shoppers came and joined in the Mini Carrots Club activity and planted veggie or herb seedlings to take home.

On Saturday 15th May the Victorian Farmers Market Association will officially launch the first group of Accredited Farmers Markets in Victoria – the Melbourne Showgrounds Farmers Market is one of those farmers markets. We are thrilled to achieve the accreditation and more so this enables us to guarantee our shoppers are shopping at an authentic farmers market.

What does that mean for our shoppers? When you shop with our producers you know you can trust that the person who you are transacting with is the person who grew or made the produce.

Now a few of our shoppers have asked - How does the producer selection work each week? So here’s the answer to clarify - All of our producers have been accredited through the Victorian Farmers Market Association’s accreditation program which ensures our shoppers are buying direct for the farmer or producer of that product. Some of our producers can join us weekly, others fortnightly and some monthly and a few will be there for a short season depending on the products. This means you will have a great selection of every food group brought to you fresh each week.

The rain held off and everyone got through their shopping, was great to see you all with bags and trolleys in hand. We had more Weekly Carrot members joining this week enabling us to do the 1st weekly PRIZE draw for our members. This week we have a produce bag for our winner.

The Weekly Carrot member winner on Sunday 25th April was - GWYN MOORE - CONGRATULATIONS!

Despite the rain, hail and bitterly cold wind our fabulous new shoppers came out to support our authentic farmers market. Thank you to everyone for braving the four seasons in one morning!

So we are off with a hiss and a roar, with shoppers joining the Weekly Carrot program and they will be able to receive all the benefits the program offers weekly. The market had a great selection of produce and all our farmers and producers. They were all very excited with the support for our 1st market and can’t wait to see you all again this weekend.

The Melbourne Showground Farmers’ Market (MSFM) will run every Sunday morning, 9am-1pm from Sunday 11th April 2010, initially for a 8 month trial period and then on an ongoing basis once a suitable site has been found amongst the facilities and commitments of the Melbourne Showground.

The market will not run at least the two Sundays during the Royal Melbourne Show in September, and there may be a couple of other days in the meantime where the site of the market will have to move.
