Champion Cherry pit spit

Hello,
The beginning of the year always brings into stark contrast the battle between brain and body, particularly this week when the consequences of our bravely made resolutions made last week are starting to pinch and we wonder about the wisdom of our choices and our ability to keep the promises we made to ourselves.

I am of course talking about our propensity to excess. It’s a simple human failing we all have it, and without it generations of fire and brimstone preachers would have had nothing to rail and fume and thump their pulpits about. Excess took up residence in my house before Christmas. When Strawberries finally came to market I wasn’t able to keep enough supply to meet demand, then Cherries came I was caught in the crossfire of a hundred Cherry pits being spat across the yard as they tried to beat the world record distance of pit-spitting ( 28.5m if you’re interested) and when apricots came along my boys abandoned Cherries (so last week...) and took to the golden orbs.

Apricots that is not Squash. I have been encouraging them to Squash and but unfortunately with little success I’m afraid except to say while I think they are they are delicious I’m not 12 years old, but if you’re a grown up these golden orbs grilled, roasted, pesto’d, pickled oe even raw are a treat right now and that includes zucchini. You’ll get lots of these little beauties from all of your vege growers at the market on Sunday and if you’re stuck for a recipe try this site http://www.thekitchn.com/12-ways-to-make-the-most-out-of-zucchini-and-summer-squash-recipes-from-the-kitchn-205318  its annoyingly American but they’re good ideas.
